Mrs. Barbara Elaine Wagner Heath Richmond

Mrs. Barbara Elaine Wagner Heath Richmond departed this life Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. 

Mrs. Richmond was born in Mt. City, TN on July 14, 1937, to the late Till and Goldie Wagner. She lived in Bristol for the last 60 years and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Bristol, VA.

Mrs. Richmond was preceded in death by husbands, Joe Louis Heath and Lorenzo R. Richmond,  and infant son, Michael Joseph Heath.

Mrs. Richmond is survived by her sons, Jeffery L. (Kim), Ronald A. (Syrilda), Marlon Craig, and Eric L. Heath; daughter, Ton-ya Heath Lockett all of Bristol; sister Ruby L. Widby, Stateville, NC; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ronald Heath, 103 Celebrity Ct, Bristol, Va.

Funeral services for Mrs. Richmond will be conducted from New Hope Baptist Church on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 11:30 am with Rev. William J. Reid, officiating. Interment will follow at VA Cemetery, Johnson City, TN. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church. Deacon Daniel Hounshell, Sr.

Deacon Daniel Hounshell, Sr., age 88, of Glade Springs, VA. died peacefully on June 17, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. 


Deacon Hounshell was the son of the late Samuel and Fannie Hounshell. 


Deacon Hounshell was a member of Mt. Calvary Community Church for 56 years where he severed as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He retired from Emory & Henry College after working for 30 years. On his daily rides he would go to Emory’s campus. He also helped to start the integration of schools.


He was preceded in death infant child Casey Hounshell.


Deacon Hounshell is survived by his loving children, Mrs. Wanda Hounshell(Brain), Mrs. Brenda Bradley and special son-in-law William Bradley, Sr., Mrs. Elvena Hagler, and son Daniel Hounshell, Jr., all of Glade Springs, Va. His loving grandchildren, Ms. Natasha Bradley(Rasid), Ms. Catina Bradley (Timothy), Ms. Danielle and Ms. Jennifer Hounshell of Bristol, CN., William Bradley, Jr., all of Glade Springs, VA. The apple of his eyes, great-grandchildren Kiara Wright of Glade Springs, Kieran Hounshell of Bristol, CN, and Caden Wright of Glade Springs. A special niece, Mrs. Stella Turner(Preston), a special nephew Riley Reddix, special sister-in-law Mrs. Carolyn Avery (Chuck), special brother-in-law Arthur Reddix of Statton, VA. Special friends, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Curtis Montgomery, Mr. Counts, sister Joann Thomas, Velma West, Margie Smith, Dorthory Branch, and church family. Numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends. He was a father figure to Rachel, Jackie, Barbara, Ruth, Faye, and many more. 


The family would like to give a special thanks to Preston and Stella Turner, April Avery, Brain Helton, Dr. Pote, nurses, and the wonderful nurses with hospice for all your help with Dad. Jerry and Ann Hill for all you have done throughout the years, Dad was so appreciative of you.


Funeral Services for Deacon Hounshell will be conducted from Mt. Calvary Community Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Mt. Calvary Community Church at 1:00pm with Phillip Hounshell and Pastor Melvin Johnson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade  Spring, VA.

Mrs. Beverly Hale

Mrs. Beverly Hale, age 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 6, 2013, after a brief illness.

She was born on July 7, 1938, in Dante, VA to the late Bud Hale and Mabel Hale. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Leroy Hale, two brothers, Damon Hale and Lawrence Hale, two sisters, Connie Shand and Ethel Dean. She is survived by her children, sons, Leroy Hale, Jr., Doc Hale, and Christopher (Danette) Hale. Daughters, Betty Hale, Deborah Obele, and Delores Hale. Sixteen grandkids, Maria, Yasmine, Chenona, Winslow, Windell, Lakeisha, David, Harrison, Asia, Daysia, Christina, ChristopherJr., Christal, Christian, Jeremiah, Daniel, Kevin and twenty-seven great grand kids. Two brothers Robert (Janet) Hale, and Carl Hale, one sister, Ester (Bruce) McAllister, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives that she loved very much. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses that haven taken care of her during her stay at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Jonathan Dixon and his nurses for their continued support and care during this difficult time it was greatly appreciated, we can not put into words how grateful we were. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Mt. Carmel New Life Gospel Church at 2:00pm with Pastor Ann Johnson and Evangelist Sally Talford officiating. The visitation will be from 1:30 until the hour of service.

Miss Frances Elnore Brown

Miss Frances Elnore Brown, age 67 went to be with the Lord Friday March 22, 2013 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Miss Brown was born July 16, 1945 in Bristol, Va to the late William H. and Mary Kate Brown.  She was a very active member of the Lee Street Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, President and Assistant Treasurer of the Young Matrons Auxiliary.  Recipient of the Lifetime Membership award from the Baptist Women’s Division of Virginia.

Retired from Raytheon and the first female (S.F.C. Frances E. Brown) to retire from the VA. Army National Guard HHD 1030th Battalion serving from May 27, 1975 – May 31, 1995.

Preceded in death by her parents William H. and Mary K. Brown and a sister Sarah Marie who died as an infant. 

Miss Brown is survived by three brothers, Frank W.(Bill) Brown, Colorado Springs, CO(Iris..deceased), John M. Brown (Joyce) Bristol, Va. and Curtis D. Brown(Donna) Asheville, NC.  Six sisters, Mrs. Maggie B. Jeter (James..deceased), Mrs. Mary A. Sutton both residing in Goldsboro, NC  Ms. Margaret E. Brown, Ms. Varah M. Crawford, Ms. Geneva Brown and Mrs. Vanessa J Pender(Donald) all residing in Bristol, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday March 28, 2013 at  Lee Street Baptist Church, with Dr. W.A.Johnson, officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until the hour of service.  Graveside services will be at 11:30am Friday March 29. 2013 at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs VA National Cemetery, Mt. Home. TN, the cortege will depart from Lee St. Baptist Church at 10:30am

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at the residence 722 Goodson St. Bristol, Va .

Evangelist Willie Belle Bond

Evangelist Willie Belle Bond was born July 1st, 1918 to the late Fate and Ada Evans. She married her only beloved the late Oscar S. Bond on February 23rd, 1935, They were married 53 years. She is preceded in death by her daughter Ms. Shirley A. Rogers, Brothers Carmen, William, and John Evans; Sisters Juanita Pierce, Frances Hodge, and Edith Branner.

Left to celebrate her life is her daughter Jacqueline R. Gray, and a very devoted, faithful son-in-law Isiah R. Gray. Grandchildren Conrad M. Bond, Nadine R. Rogers (missing since February 2nd, 2002), Jacquelyn Y. Releford, and Nikki N. Dully. Great Grandchildren Marcus, Anthony and Niesha Rogers. Ronisha Dully, Kameron Cox, and Ja'Necqua Releford. Great great grandchildren Ja'Maya Fluellen and Ja'Veonn Dully. Brother in-laws Hugh Hodge, Orvel (Beatrice) Bond, and John Douglas(members) Bond Fayetteville, Nc, Escoe Branner Manhattan NY, Thomas Dickens Atlantic City, NJ.

Evangelist Willie B. Bond was saved at an early age while she was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dorsey. She also served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Willie Kate Bradford at Mt. Zion Holiness Church for several years. In 1963 she became a part of Full Gospel Mission Church, where she ministered until December 25th, 1994. April 7th, 1967 she was licensed under the late Richard H Hall of the United Christian Church of God in Cleveland, TN.

Evangelist Willie Bond has evangelized around the United Stated and Foreign Countries as well. Her telephone ministry reached as far as Athens Greece. Even though she lost her sight at an early age, it did not stop her mission work. Her home was always an open place to worship. Her biography is tremendous but the most impressive fact is that she is a saint of the most High God, lover of God's people and Gospel Preacher.

One of her favorite songs is “I'm on my way to the Kingdom Land”. We believe she is truly on her way. We will miss her deeply, but we find comfort in knowing that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal and the scripture declares that there remainth a rest for the people of God. 

At the request of Evangelist Willie Bond there will be a private graveside home going service with family and friends at 1:00pm At the Historical Pierce Cemetery. The family and friends will meet at Clark Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service, Inc. at 12:30pm. Special thanks to the nurses that made her time with us comfortable and peaceful. 

Mrs. Ana M. Stewart

Mrs. Ana M. Stewart, 224 Avondale Lane   Bristol VA. Departed this life on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Stewart was past member of Lee Street Baptist Church and The Somit Club.

Survived by; 3 sons, Mr. Howard M. Stewart, Mr. Lance O. Stewart & Mr. Anton L. Stewart; 1 daughter, Mrs. Cora Jane Forte; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.


Funeral Service for Mrs. Ana M. Stewart will be conducted from the Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. with Dr. W.A. Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. till the hour of service. The Entombment service will follow.

Mrs. Alfreda I. Womack

Mrs. Alfreda I. Womack departed this life Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Indian Path Hospital.

Mrs. Womack was born in Rogersville, TN residing in Kingsport, TN for the past 11 years. She was a member of Powerful New Life C.O.G.I.C. where she served as the President of the pastors Aid committee and was a member of the choir.

Mrs. Womack is Preceded in death by her husband Walter Womack, her father Louis Rogers, her brother Louis Rogers, Jr., her maternal grandparents Nicholas and Cora McKinney, and her paternal grandparents Charlie and Rachel Rogers.

Mrs. Womack is survived by two sons, Patrick Womack and Mitchell Womack of Kingsport, TN, mother Mrs. Carrie Mae McKinney Rogers, one brother William Rogers, three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Lee Cash, Mrs. Kathy (Howard) Collins, and Ms. Doris Rogers all of Kingsport, TN.

Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday at 12 noon January 3, 2013 at Powerful New Life C.O.G.I.C with Pastor Hugh Hale officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until the hour of service.  Burial will follow at Mitchell Crest Cemetery, Rogersville, TN. Mrs. Willie Mae Lynch

Mrs. Willie Mae Lynch, 95, of 930 E. Sevier Street, Kingsport, departed this life on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Lynch was born on November 1, 1917 in Washington County, and lived most of her life in Kingsport, TN.

She attended St. Mark United Methodist Church where her husband ministered for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Frank J. Lynch, Sr., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hill and her son, Kenneth L. Lynch.

Mrs. Lynch enjoyed her crafts, working in her flower garden, and cooking

Mrs. Lynch is survived by her two sons, John Frank Lynch, Jr. and wife Eva of Johnson City, TN, Donald E. Lynch of Kingsport and daughter, Mrs. Shirley Ann Porter of Laurel, MD, sister: Mrs. Flossie Kennedy, and brother in law Mr. James Kennedy, Grandchildren: Kenneth Mitchell and wife Caroline, Jeffery, Yvette, Donald Kitt, Johnny E. Lynch, and Karol Lynch, step grandchildren: Celestine and Adam, five great grandchildren, Nephews: Donald (Sonnie) Live, John Lynch, Lawrence D. Lynch, Jr., Michael Lynch, James Kennedy, Jr. one niece: Mildred Kennedy and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Robert H. Williams, and Dr. John J. Tasker, a special thanks to Palmyria Tarter, who served as caregiver for eight and a half years. We also wish to thank Susie Bragg of Advance Home Care, the volunteers at meals on wheels, and Manna Meals at Central Baptist Church, and St. Mark United Methodist Church.

She will always and forever be in our hearts we love you mom.

Mrs. Ala Belle Riley

Mrs. Ala Belle Riley, 106, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 25, 2012. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Brown Hatcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Carter and Margaret Wilson, her husband George Riley, a son James Riley and a great-grandson, Wendell Pope. She is survived by three granddaughters and two grandsons; Margaret Diggs (Willie), Sandra Claytor (Mike), Garland (Joe) Riley (Stella), Angela Wilford (Harris) and William (Willie) Isom; eight great-grandchildren, Max Mitchell, Marlena Pope (Darda Dove), Alicia Ross, Carlos Ross, Jayda Wilford, Justin Wilford, William Patrick Isom, Lashon Crawley; three great-great grandchildren, Alexis Pope, Jared Mitchell, Meredith Mitchell, Jordan Pope, Jayden Pope and a cousin, Alma Scott who thought of “granny” as a mother figure all her life. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29 from 12-1 p.m. at Harris-Anderson Chapel, 218 Oakview Ave., Bristol, VA 24201. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church and interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Harris-Anderson Chapel. 

Mrs. Hattie Hill Grimes

Mrs. Hattie Hill Grimes, 93, 509 Virginia Street. departed this life on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Grimes was born in Alabama and made her home in Bristol for a number of years. Mrs. Grimes was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

 Preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Gene Grimes; 1 sister, Mrs. Jannie Daniels; 3 brother, Mr. Steve Allen, Mr. Nathan Jones & Mr. Eddie Finch.

Survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Davis; A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews great great nieces.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Hill Grimes will be conducted at New Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 12 noon. with Rev. William J. Reid, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. till the hour of service. The interment will follow at Tri-City Memory Gardens Blountville, TN.

William Allen Hill

William Allen Hill, born January 15, 1958 to Arthur & Shirley Hill, he departed this life on December 14, 2012 in Abingdon, VA.

William was preceded in death by Arthur(father) Shirley (mother), Arthur, Jr. (brother) Grandparents George and Mrs. Flora Hayes, Robert and Mrs. Carrie Hill. Uncles, Robert Hill, Sr. Merrill Hill, Robert Hayes, and Charles Trent, Aunts Mrs. Joann Ellison, Mrs. Marie Goode, Mrs. Dorothy Brown, & Mrs. Leona (Lollie Pop) Washington.


He is survived by wife Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Hill, Abingdon, VA, Special step son Bodie Price, Abingdon, VA, Brother Dwayne Hill (Camilla) Newport News, VA, Donald Hill Bristol, TN, Foster brother Hugh Boren, Johnson City, TN, Sisters Mrs. Jean Bradley, Glade Spring, VA, Mrs. Deloise Moore, Los Angeles CA, Ms. Darlene Hill, Salem, VA, and Ms. Anita Hill, Abingdon, VA and Several nieces and nephews.


Services will be conducted Tuesday December 18, 2012 at 2:00pm from the Mt. View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel,  Pastor Melvin Johnson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.

Mrs. Lucille Vivian Moore Roberts

Mrs. Lucille Vivian Moore Roberts, age 92, of Bristol, TN died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Forest Hills Center, Columbus, OH.  Mrs. Roberts was a resident of Bristol, until 2001 when she moved to Columbus, to live with her family, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. “June” Roberts, Jr.; parents Landon and Addie (Wood) Moore; and sisters Laura M. Hogans,  Alice  A. Moore, and Stella M. Spann.

Her survivors include her daughter,  Laundria Roberts Sensabaugh (Virgil), Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Mia Sensabaugh, Charlotte, NC; two nieces, two nephews, three great-nephews, a great niece and  three great-great nephews, a great-great niece, devoted cousins, and several dear friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, at College Avenue Church of Christ in Bristol, TN.   Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA, on Thursday.   Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until time of service at the church and at other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. John Hogans, III, 124 Haley Walk, Bristol. TN.

Deacon Charles Ellis Snapp

Deacon Charles Ellis Snapp 88 Kingsport, TN. departed this life, Friday December 7, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

Charles Ellis Snapp was born in Hawkins County where he spent his childhood and early adulthood.  The third of ten children, he was the son of Maggie and Ellis Snapp.  He moved to Sullivan County(Kingsport) and married Elizabeth Leeper, who he affectionately called "GG" The couple became one and had three children: two sons James"Preacher" Snapp (deceased) Arthur Snapp, and an infant daughter(deceased).

 Charles Ellis Snapp was preceded in death by his loving wife Mrs. Elizabeth Snapp, parents Ellis and Mrs. Maggie Hale Snapp: sisters, Ms. Nettie Leeper, Ms. Rebecca Ann Snapp; brother, James Barber Snapp, and his son Rev James E. Snapp.

He leave behind his legacy and love in the hearts of his son Arthur L. Snapp and daughter-in-law Mrs. Barbara Snapp of Greenville,SC, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren: sister, Mrs. Katherine Howard, Mrs. Etta Mae Fanney, Mrs. Josephine Willis(all of Rogersville), Mrs. Bessie Peavy of Dayton OH, Mrs. Jannibelle Bristol of Kingsport: several nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Deacon Snapp made ground breaking history in his career, he was employed with Holston Valley Hospital(Welmont Health Systems) for thirty-four years employed as an orderly and later became the first African-American Supervisor of Orderlies.

Deacon Snapp was a man with strong Christian values.  He was a man of principle and integrity.  He served passionately in the Central Baptist Church for over sixty-five years. On-line condolences may be sent to the family at snapp@clarkfc.com

Mr. Harold Michael McDaniel

Mr. Harold Michael McDaniel, son of the late Henry and Dorothy McDaniel, departed this life on December 5, 2012 at Abingdon Manor in Abingdon, Virginia.  Harold leaves to mourn his son James Banks of Knoxville, Tennessee and one daughter Margaret McDaniel of Bristol, Virginia; 2 grandchildren of Bristol, VA; three sisters Mary Brown, Teresa Gilmore (Edward), and Charlotte Clay all of Bristol, TN; four brothers Rev. James McDaniel, Thomas McDaniel (Dianne), Walter McDaniel and William McDaniel (Tina) all of Bristol, TN.  He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Mr. Herman C. Anderson, Jr.

Mr. Herman C. Anderson, Jr.,67, 208 Alisha Street Bristol, TN departed this life on December 5, 2012 in Meade, KS.  Mr. Anderson was born in El Paso, TX on November 13, 1945 and made his home in Bristol, TN since 1966. He was a professional truck driver and was employed by Moore Freight Company, Inc.

 

Mr. Anderson, Jr. preceded in death by his parents & two sisters.

 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years Mrs. Rebecca Anderson; 3 children, Herman Anderson, III, Shawn Anderson and Angela Anderson all residing in Bristol, TN; special grandson, Marquis Anderson; 1 brother, Danny (Yong) Anderson of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Diane (Harlold) Johnson, Bonnie (James) Cabiness; Valie Mae Tolliver, Pinky Franklin, Brenda MC Giver all residing in El Paso, TX, Susan Long of San Antonio, TX & Patricia Minnifield of Killeen, TX.

Mr. Jeffery  Carpenter , 51 departed this life Monday, December 3, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.  Preceded in death by his maternal & paternal grandparents and his Father, Aubrey B. Carpenter.


He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mrs. Mary Carpenter, Daughters; Ms. Anissa Carpenter, Mrs. Jennifer (Rashid) Dunn, Brothers; Aubrey Jr. (Tobey) Carpenter, Ronald (Judy) Carpenter, Sisters; Ms. Colleen Smith, Mrs. Angela Peters, Mrs. Donna (Raymond) Bowers, Ms. Kay Carpenter, 6 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.


Graveside services will be conducted @ 1:00 p.m. Friday December 7th, 2012 at the VA National Cemetery, Mountain Home Tennessee with Pastor Ricardo Dorcean officiating. The processional will leave the funeral home at 12:00 p.m.

Mrs. Nikki Johnson Booker

Mrs. Nikki Johnson Booker, 34 departed this life on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. She resided in Charlotte, NC for the past 5years. She was a member of Little Rock A.M.E. Zion Church, Charlotte, NC and a former member of the Lee St. Baptist Church Bristol, Va. She was a graduate of Virginia High School where she was a member of the track team. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Steve and Helen Foster.

Survivors include: Her husband Moishe Booker, 1 son Elijah Booker, 3 daughters Ilana Booker, Ilial Booker Ladonna booker, all of Charlotte,

NC, Mother Mrs. Kathy Johnson Bunche, and step father Roy Bunche, Two Brothers Stephen Johnson, Charlotte, NC, and Nikolaus Johnson, Nashville, TN.

Ms. Ruth (Mom B) J. Duff

Ms. Ruth (Mom B) J. Duff, 78, of 404 McDowell St. and formally of 649 5th Street, Bristol TN departed this life Wednesday November 28, 2012 after a brief illness.

Ms. Duff was born in Abingdon, VA to the late James and Virginia Patton Duff. She was a member of Hood Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. She was retired from Sperry Rand Corporation.

Ms. Duff was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Arthur, James, Fred and John Duff.

Ms. Duff’s survivors include: One niece, Mrs. Linda Williams and husband Don. Great nieces: Ms, Emma J. Goins and great nephew: Anthony Gloster II(Christine), great-great nephews: Marcus, Anthony III and Christopher, great-great nieces: Gabriella and Kim Duff, Jovanah Phonix, and several other nieces. Special nephew: Donald Henderson, two special cousins: Mrs. Thelma Henderson and MR. Lemuel Wheeler, two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Sue Duff and Charlotte Duff, a special friend Mrs. Sue Biedleman (Marvin).

Mr. Frank Rocky Clay, Sr.

Mr. Frank Rocky Clay, Sr., 717 Ash Street departed this life on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Frank “Rocky” Clay attended Douglass High School and graduated from Virginia High School, Bristol VA. He was employed at Steel Fab, Inc. in Abingdon, VA. He was employed there for over 25 years, and he was employed there longer than other employees of this company. Also, he was known as” Coach Rocky” where he had coached many kids in the community. Rocky was a trustee of Lee Street Baptist Church where he was the man behind the scenes engineering the T.V. Ministries. Rocky loved to fish, and cook on his grill, while football was playing. 

Preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Lois Carrington and brother, Mr.  Ellis Carrington.

Rocky leaves behind to cherish his loving memories the “joy of his life”, his wife Charlotte McDaniel-Clay; Two sons, Frank Rocky Clay, Jr. of Atlanta, GA. and Michael B. Clay , of Charlotte, NC; One daughter, Melonye R. ,(Travis) Clark; 3 grandchildren; 1 Sister, Carolyn Gudger, of Bristol TN; 1 brother, Bill Carrington of Baltimore , MD; several nieces and nephews, 1 great nephew, and a host of relatives and very close friends.

Mrs. Virginia Gale Smith-Newton, 71, 801 Clinton Ave. Bristol, VA. The Lord called her home on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born June 23, 1941 to the late Mr. William & Mrs. Mildred L. Newton.

Mrs. Faye R. Beidleman - McMillian was born on April 21, 1940, she made her transition to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at her home in Riverdale, Georgia. She was the youngest child of Arthur Eugene and Pearl Blanche Beidleman. 

Survivors include: Life partner Bruce Bowman, Children: Michelle Little (Greg), Dane McMillian Jr. (Kim), & Karen Jennings (Douglas).  Five grandchildren: Erika Clues, Derrick Black, Tevin McMillian, Pearla  McMillian & Jasmyn Little.  Great grandchildren: Jamel Black and Daveon Black. Deacon William Earl Allen, Sr “Toot”

Deacon William Earl Allen, Sr “Toot” Departed this life on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Johnson City Medical Center.

He was born in Louisburg, NC on October 14, 1953. At the age of 10 he moved to Paterson, NJ where he was raised in the church at New Christian Missionary Baptist where he attended Sunday School, was a member of the Youth and Junior Choir and Ushers. He went on later to graduate from Eastside High School in 1971 and then later attended 2yrs at Passaic County Community College. After college he joined the armed forces of the United States of America as a Private E2 1st Class.

William Earl Allen Sr. always loved helping others and made sure his family never went without. In 1974 he met the love of his life, Jessie Marie Allen which meant the world to him. Even though he is no longer here in the flesh he is definitely here with us in spirit. Those who know him know that he had a heart so big he touched everyone he knew. On Sept 24, 2006 William was ordained as a Deacon of Mt Calvary Community Church in Glade Spring, VA.

William (Toot) is survived by a loving wife, Mrs. Jessie Allen, four loving children and their spouses, Demont (Mona) Sharita (Michael), Earl (Yolonda) and Niclole (Lamar), his mother, Mrs. Thelma Allen, father Mr. Willie Allen, Jr, brother, Fredric Allen and sister, Lillian McKenzie,. Adored and loved by all of this grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

 

Services will be held Saturday October 27, 2012, Mt Calvary Community Church, Glade Spring, VA at 2:00pm. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 prior to service. Pastor Melvin Johnson officiating.

She was born in Henrietta, NC residing in Kingsport, TN.  for the past 65 years. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.  She was proceeded in death by her husband Floyd Westmoreland.  Her Mother Ms. Ella McCurry and father John Bristol.  Brothers, George Bristol, Johnny Bristol, Lester Bristol, Azel Bristol, Edward Bristol, Dirl Bristol.  Sisters:  Ms. Wanda Bristol, Ms. Belle Dulaney, Ms. Sarah Camp, and Ms. Pearl Royster.

Mr. Da'von A. Tarter, 20; 611 Lovedale St.  Kingsport, TN. departed this life on Friday August 24, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center from a motorcycle accident.  He was born in Nashville, TN. but spent most of his life in Kingsport,TN  He was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School.  He was employed by Kids Expedition and Krystal's in Johnson Cit, TN. He was a loving person and well loved by the community.  He especially loved children.  He was a big hearted person and loved to help anyone in need.  His friends lovingly say that he always had to have the last word.  His little brother added that Da'von was a shoe addict.  He is preceded in death by his by his maternal grandparents, Ms. Nancy(Tarter) Dykes, Ulesses Miller and special grandeur James Swafford and Paternal grandparents Eddie Erwin Sr. and Mrs. Marie Erwin.  James Norman and Hope Norman.

Mrs. Lizzie L. McDaniel, 163 Ridgedale Dr. Bristol, TN departed this life on August 18, 2012 at her home after a brief illness. Mrs. McDaniel was born June 21, 1941 in Conecuh County, Alabama. She was born to the late Neil and Rachael D. Wright. Mrs. McDaniel joined the St. Johns Baptist Church when she became a child for the the King. She has always been very active in the Ministry of Christ always trying to let her light shine before all she came in contact with, Liz loved God first and always showed her love to all she come before. Liz moved to Long Beach, CA at an early age and was employed by Long Beach CA school district for 19 years, Liz retired with medical problems from the school district. Liz met and became the wife of James H. McDaniel in 1984 and moved to Bristol in 1989 and Liz & Bro. McDaniel became very active in the work for the Lord God All mighty and continue until God called her to reward

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Come on up to Heaven and let us magnify the Lord together.

Johnson was born August 18, 1933 in Bladen County, NC to William Eugene Johnson and Carrie Hester Johnson.  He was the third of ten children born to that union

He served as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of Bristol, VA for 9 years and Macedonia Baptist Church of Sparta, NC

Hugh Kyle Hord
Hugh Kyle Hord was born in Hawkins County, TN  on June 9, 1934.  He was the third of four sons born to the late Federick Douglass and Sallie M. Hord.  He graduated from Douglass High School in Kingsport,  TN. in 1952  and attended Morehouse College before joining the U.S.Airforce.   He was stationed at several locations during his military service and finished his stint in New York.  There he met and later married Janet Wright in 1958.  He eventually set roots in Long Island, NY where he resided until his retirement from private industry.  He then moved to Florida around 2002.
Hugh was an avid jazz enthusiast and was a staple member of several jazz organinations in the New York City area.  He continued his participation in jazz after moving to Florida.   He also had a passion for the game of golf and passed  his knowledge and interests on to younger generations while in the NYC area.
Hugh is survived by his daughter, Ms. Robin E. Mattison, son Christopher Kyle Hord, grandson Kevin Mattison, grand-daughter Kyle Mattison all of Florida and brother Bobby G. (Andrya) of Kingsport, TN, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his brothers:  Fred D., Jr. and WIlliam Authur Hord.   Online condolences may be sent to the family at hord@clarkfc.com

Mrs. Mettie Beatrice Banner better known as (Bea) departed this life on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Banner was 73 years of age and was born in Grainger County, TN. She moved to Kingsport as a young girl and retired from Holston Valley Hospital after 43 years of service. Nathaniel departed this life April 5, 2012 at Bristol Regional Medical Hospice House. He was preceded in death by his parents Mrs. Edna Cassie Lewis and Nathaniel McWilliams Sr. Aunts and uncles Mrs. Hazel Matthews, Mrs. Azilee and Rolen Ross, Mrs. Helen and Sam Foster, Mrs. Elizabeth Kinchloe, Robert Lewis, and Douglass Lewis.

Mrs. Gladys Davis Thomas 80, 1401University Blvd Bradley Hills Apts # C - 1. departed this life Friday, March 2, 2012 at her home, after a brief illness. She was born in Shell Creek, TN and spent most of her life here in Kingsport. She was preceded in death by her beloved son,  Joseph Davis. Her former husband  Otis Davis, her husband Curtis Thomas, her parents John and Mrs. Minnie Hardy, brothers Ernest and Luther as well as sisters Katherine, Josephine Hazel, Mary Lou, and Beatrice, all preceded her in death. She had five grandchildren, Matt Sellers, Russell Watterson Jr, Tyron Campbell, Peppertona Muller, and Jolene Davis. She also had 12 great- grandchildren. Ms. Bernice Hardy, is her only remaining sibling. There are many nieces and nephews that will miss this wonderful lady, as well as anyone that had the pleasure of being her friend. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday March 8, 2012 at 11:30am from Central Baptist Church with Rev Matthew Thomas Officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30am until the time of service. Burial will follow at the VA National Cemetery Mt. Home TN.

Carson Wayne "Bo" Elam, Jr. departed this life Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the home shared by very special friends Sam and Pat Smith.

Bo was preceded in death by his father, Carson Wayne Elam, Sr., and paternal grandparents Henry and Ada Bell Elam.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Barbara Anna and Jim Anderson, wife and daughter Mary Ann and Kayla Elam, maternal grandparents Marjorie and Allen Meadows, sisters Serena, Shannon, Amy, Sarah, Brother Josh and numerous extended family. Calvin McKinley Price, Jr 

Calvin McKinley Price, Jr. was born February 17, 1957 in Kingsport, TN. to the late JoAnn and Calvin M. Price, Sr. He severed his country in the U.S. Navy. Kenny was a member of Mount Zion Tabernacle Holiness Church having severed as the vice president of the Men's Ministry. He was an active member of the West Virginia and East Tennessee Council and he served as the assistant secretary of the Men's Ministry and in addition he was a member of the Council's Security Team.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Nellie Price and his maternal grandparents, Conlee and Monnie Maxwell. Mr. Amos Phillips

Mr. Amos Phillips, 64, 818 Oak Street Apt. #224 Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, January 16, 2012, at the Indian Path Medical Center. Mr. Phillips was born in Batesville, Mississippi, he resided in Kingsport and Church Hill for the past 48 years. 

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Cashley and Mrs. Odessie(Kuykendall) Phillips; four sisters, Ozel, Emma Jean, Jessie Mae, and Carlotta; two brothers, Adoltha and James Earl; his first wife and mother to his five children, Mrs. Mary(Carpenter) Skaggs; and his beloved wife of 19 years and mother of his three stepchildren Mrs. Betty Sue (Goad) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a big prankster and loved joking around, always full of laughter, always a joy to be around. Mr. Phillips leaves to mourn his passing eight children, Whalen(Marty), Amos Jr., Megale, DeAndrade, LaVera, Josh, Jennifer, and Jonathan; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a very special nephew John Wayne Ealy(Pig) who was always there to assist him; four sisters Lenora(J.W.)Smith, Ollivet(S.V.) Cox, Annie(John)Ewing, Lucille(Eric); four brothers, Odie, Cashley, Jr., Namon, and Lonnie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends. We will never forger his hardy laughter and bright smile. We will miss him dearly. We love him deeply.

Mr. Alec Christian Worley

Alec Christian Worley, 27, went to be with the Lord Thursday January 5th, 2012 at Johnson City Medical Center.

 

God’s Soldier was born August 3rd, 1984.  Alec graduated from Virginia High School in 2002 and Carson-Newman College in May 2007 with a Bachelor Degree in Exercise Science.  He was a radical soldier in God’s Army who at an early age devoted his life to Christ.  Alec was a man on a mission to change not only himself but change the world one soul at a time.  He was so passionate and excited to do the Lord’s work and see people saved and set free.  Alec’s smile and personality was like no other.  He was a gentle giant and a huge teddy bear who was always there with arms open wide to brighten even the gloomiest of days.  Alec had a love for life, family, friends, children, and most of all the Lord.

Wendell E. Pope, age 40, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, atPiedmont Hospital, Atlanta, GA.
He resided in Lithia Springs, GA, and was originally from Bristol, TN. He attended Saint Anne’s Catholic School, Bristol, VA and graduated from Bristol Tenn High School.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Duff.
He is survived by his wife, Dana Pope; mother, Margaret Pope Diggs, step-father, Willie Diggs Jr.; daughter, Alexis Pope; son, Jordan Pope;  step-daughter, Danielle Kirkland; step-brother, Shannon Diggs (Dianne) sister, Marlena Pope (Darda); uncle, Willie Isom; aunt, Sandra Claytor (Mike); uncle, Garland (Joe) Riley; aunt, Angela Wilford (Harris); step-grandfather, Charles Duff; special cousin, Max Mitchell, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ms. Mariah Deona Maxwell

Ms. Mariah Deona Maxwell departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Vanderbilt University Hospital, in Nashville, TN after a brief illness.

Mariah was born in Marion ,VA on January 24, 1991. She was 20 years, 10 months and 24 days old at the time of her death.

At an early age she gave her life to Christ and joined the First Baptist Church, Chilhowie Va. where, she was a devoted member of the youth ministry, “The Voices of Praise Gospel Singers”.  

After she and her family moved to Kingsport, TN, she became a member of the Central Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Praise Dance Team and Youth Choir.

Mariah was a 2009 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and a third year Biology Pre-med student at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. She utilized her time as a volunteer at the Holston Valley Hospital, as well as, The Mountain States Medical Group Pediatrics, where she shadowed Dr. Michelle Estes.

David Harold Mann, 62 Kingsport was called to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Dec 17, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer.

David was loved by all who knew him for his personality, witty sense of humor and his compassion: especially for his patients at Healthsouth Rehab Hospital.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife and best friend Teresa, family and friends.

Mrs. Edna D. English

Mrs. Edna D. English was born January 13, 1915 in Bristol, TN to the late Lindsey & Blanche Birdwell Davis. She departed this life after a brief illness on December 15, 2011 at her home. She confessed Christ as her savior at an early age.

She was a faithful member of the Lee Street Baptist Church where she served as a member of WMS, Susan Jane Circle, Pastor Aide Club, Ladies Usher Board, Thanksgiving Outreach, Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, until her health began to fail.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl English, daughter Ms. Chiquita Owens, one sister Mrs. Alvilda Swinson, one granddaughter Mrs. Cassandra McDaniel and great great grandchild Jai-Lesa Dulaney.

Mrs. Mary A. Duff, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Bristol Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, TN after a brief illness. She retired from Raytheon Company and was an active and faithful member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. She was a daughter of the late Mr. Elmer Isom and Mrs. Vernie Isom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Riley and 3 brothers and 1 sister, Rufus Isom, Dale Isom, Wayne Isom and Anna Mae Kyle.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Duff, Sr.; 2 sons and 3 daughters, William (Willie) Isom, Margaret Diggs (Willie), Sandra Claytor (Mike), Garland (Joe) Riley, and Angela Wilford (Harris); 2 step-daughters and 4 step-sons, Sheila Brown (Greg), Charles Duff, Jr., John Duff, Robert Duff (Ann), Donald Duff (Lee Ann), and Caroline Duff;  2 special daughters-in-law, Claudine Duff and Charlotte Duff;  2 brothers and 1 sister, Eugene Isom, Bill Isom (Pat) and Susie Tate (Ben); 8 grandchildren, Wendell Pope, Max Mitchell, Marlena Pope, Alicia Ross, Jayda Wilford, Justin Wilford, William Patrick Isom, Lashon Crawley; 3 great grandchildren, Alexis Pope, Jared Mitchell, Meredith Mitchell and a host of step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Michael Leon Hill, Jr. 42 of 929 Dale St. Kingsport, TN. departed this life Thursday November, 17, 2011 at his residence.  A native of Omaha, Nebraska he has lived in Kingsport, TN the last one and a half years.  He was an employee of Rail link at Eastman. Mrs. Rose Mae McMillan Gomez, born August 8, 1928 in Mount Sterling Ohio to mother, Melvia Holly (deceased) and father, John Holly (deceased). She married Christopher C. McMillan Sr.(deceased) of Bristol, TN on July 3, 1946. Out of this union came five children Christopher C McMillan Jr., Franklin D. McMillan, James H. McMillan (deceased), Melvie Haines, Myra Melinda McMillan (deceased)

In 1958, she moved to Philadelphia, Pa where she was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost and in obedience to God’s word was baptized in Jesus’s name at Grace Temple, Johnson City, TN. Afterwards, she joined True Light Gospel Mission Church in Philadelphia, where she became a minister of the gospel and taught Sunday school until the death of pastor Rebecca J. White. She then joined Deliverance Church in Philadelphia under the leadership of Pastor Smith. In 1980, she married Francisco Gomez and returned to Bristol where she joined Ever Flowing Well Church under the late pastor V.G. Haynes. There she ministered, taught Sunday school, and worked as financial secretary and pastor’s aide. After the passing of Pastor Haynes, she became a member of Kingdom Life Ministries, pastored by her son James H. McMillan. Even after the passing of her son, she continued to serve the church as the Mother and Evangelist under the leadership of her daughter-in-law, Pastor Theodorsia McMillan until her passing on November 16, 2011.

She has touched many lives and she will be greatly missed. Mother Gomez was a great example of what a servant of God should be. She was preceded in death by her husband Francisco Gomez, son Pastor James H. McMillan and daughter Myra Melinda McMillan, brother John Holley, sisters Vivian McMillan, Ruth Harlan, and Joanne Holley. She leaves behind three children, sons Christopher C. McMillan Jr. (Debbie), of Bristol, TN, Franklin D. McMillan (Iris) of Marietta, GA, and daughter, Melvie Haines (Walter) of Charlotte, NC and daughter-in-law, Theodorsia McMillan of Bristol, TN, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Rose Mae McMillan Gomez will be conducted from Lee Street Baptist Church 1 Mary Street, Bristol, VA Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 11 am. Rev. Dr. W.A. Johnson and Pastor Theodorsia McMillan officiating.

Mr. Richard Lee Henderson

Mr. Richard Lee Henderson, 63, departed this life on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Cumberland Manor Nursing Home Ctr. Nashville, TN. Mr. Henderson was a native of Bristol, TN,, was born on December 4, 1947, the youngest son of Forrest U. Henderson and Ruth McAdams Henderson. Richard was a member of John Wesley Methodist Church in Bristol. After graduating from Bristol Tennessee High School, he moved to Nashville, TN and attended Tennessee State University, becoming a great supporter of the University. He was employed at Bridgestone of America for 30 years, where he retired in November, 2005. Richard led a very active life, becoming a scuba diver and a member of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers, the Tennessee Association of Black Scuba Divers, and becoming a Certified Master Diver. The experience took him and fellow divers to many parts of the world, including The Hawaiian Islands, The Virgin Islands, Curacao, and various Caribbean Islands.

Richard leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Ruth McAdams Henderson; brother, Terry Henderson; nephews, David Coffey, Kareem and Michael Henderson; nieces, Kimberly Coffee, Michell Craighead, many other relatives, devoted friends at Bridgestone of America, and Al Smith and Craig Daniels.

Dr. Thomas M. Law

 

Dr. Thomas M. Law, Chester, Va was born September 23, 1925 in Bristol, Va. to the late Thomas Keen Law and the late Rebecca Ellen Davis-Law.  He was the youngest of four children.  Dr. Law Died on November 5, 2011 at the John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell, Va after several Months of illness.

 

He was preceded in death by three siblings, John Law, Ethel White and Lottie Gray.  Left to mourn his death is his wife of 61 years, Katherine Iris Tillar Law of Chester, Va. and one son Thomas Fenimore Law (Gayle) of Bowie, MD.  Two granddaughters Alyson (DeMarkus) George, and Alana Law of Bowie, MD.  Two great-grandsons, Markus and Gavin George of Bowie, MD.  Dr. Law is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Goldie Jackson and Margie Starkes of Skippers, Va. one brother-in-law, Melvin Tillar (Jessie) of Skippers, VA and numerous nieces, Nephews, relatives and dear friends.

 

Dr. Law earned his Bachelor’s summa cum laude from Saint Paul’s College, his Master’s Degree from New York University, and his PhD from Cornell University.  He was also awarded Honorary Doctorate degrees in Human Letters from Saint Pau’s College, Lawerenceville, Va and Cuttington University College, Liberia, respectively.  He retired in 2001 as the president of Saint Paul’s College where he had served as their seventh president since 1989.  Before coming to Saint Paul’s College he served from 1982-1989 in various capacities at State University of New York.  Dr. Law was also the President of Virginia State College, Ettrick, Va and while under his leadership he was instrumental in helping Virginia State achieve their university status.  He also served as President at Penn Valley Community College, Kansas City, MO, vice President of Academic Affairs at Washington DC Technical Institute, (now the University of the District of Columbia), Director of the Division of Business, (now Hampton Institute University)

 

Dr. Law held several memberships and received numerous awards and honors for his work which include Who’s Who in America; Who’s Who in the East, CIAA officials Hall o Fame, United Negro College Fund Fellow and Alpha Phi Alpha Graduate fellow.  He held memberships in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Nu Honor Society, Cornell University Council, Southside Va Commission on Business and Education; Advisory Board, Bank of America, Lawrenceville, Va;  Board of Directors, Child’s Nursing Home and Living Resources Corporation.  He also served as a gubernatorial appointee to Virginia’s A.L. Philpott Manufacturing Extension Partnership Board of Trustee, The College Fund/UNCF board of Directors, National Association of Equal Opportunity in Higher Education and Chair of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. 

 

Dr. Law was a member of the Episcopal Church and attended St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Petersburg, Va until his health declined.  He enjoyed education and life.  He will truly be missed by all of those who loved and knew him.

Margaret “Peggy” Smith Rogers

Margaret “Peggy” Smith Rogers was born May 10, 1918 in Marion, Virginia to Bessie Campbell of Marion VA., and John Grubb of Wytheville, VA. She was preceded in death by both parents, her first husband Herbert Smith of Marion, VA., her second husband DeWitt Rogers of Statham, GA, and her brother Warren Campbell of Brooklyn, NY.  She departed this life on Wednesday morning November 3, 2011 at her home in Mantua, NJ. 

 

She is survived by a brother, John “Bandy” Grubb (Mary) of Wytheville, VA, a daughter Ms. Jon Ann “Jonnie” Smith-Laws of Mantua, NJ and a son Herbert Campbell Smith (Nancy) of Meredasea, IL, as well, two step-daughters Nancy Rogers of Bowie, MD and Ida Ferguson of Belle Air, MD.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Kim Stribling (Larry) of Flushing, MI., Karen Goode (Troy) of Staten Island, NY, Lynell Laws (Maria) of Chaddsford, PA.  Margaret often said “The best gift she received” was from her son & his fist wife Mona Smith, her oldest grandson Herbert Gregory Smith of Corona, CA.  Also from Corona are: Sharon Kirkland (Kim), and Monica Hernandez; and Melissa Rose (Ryan) of Rockwall, TX.  She is also survived by four step-grandchildren: Jaquenette Ferguson of Belle Air, MD., Allyson Williams of Greenbelt, MD., David Hyer of Aurora, CO., and Andrew Hyer of St. Louis, MO.

She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Amber, Elijah and Thaddeus Goode of Staten Island, NY, Ryan & Julia Kirkland, Alyssa Hernandez all of Corona, CA, Sophie Rose of Rockwall, TX, Treasure & Princess Stribling of Flushing, MI; two step-great-grandchildren: Taleah & Travis Williams of Greenbelt, MD.

 

Margaret was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church, in Bristol VA., holding numerous positions including personal secretaries to Rev. Ragsdale and Rev. Johnson, a member of the choir, a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and president of numerous positions including PTA of Douglas High School.

 

Margaret was employed at Monroe, Raytheon and retired from Sears.  Margaret enjoyed hosting “luncheons” for group activities as well as “being a big sister” to her friends as they aged.  Margaret was like a natural magnet to people; she was a friend to many.  She will be missed in Bristol, both Virginia & Tennessee side.  She enjoyed sports, traveling, fine clothing, sending and receiving cards.  She relocated from Bristol Tennessee in 1998 to NJ due to illness and resided there until her death.

Mr. Steven Michael Luis, 58, 1862 Kenwood Rd. departed this life on September 1, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

 

He was preceded in death by his father; Anthony Luis, mother; Annette Dupont Luis and his first wife Cathy Luis.

 

He was a resident of Manchester, NH but has resided in Kingsport, TN for several years.  His hobbies include Guitars, music and antique cars.

 

Survivors include:  His wife Ms. Cheryl Ann Luis, three sons Robert Moore, Brian Moore and Tracy Luis. One daughter Ms. Laura Johnson two brothers Mike Luis and Dan Luis, one sister Ms. Julie Turner and 5 grandchildren.  Mr. Luis request was to be cremated, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Thomas Preston Jr.

     Mr. Thomas Preston Jr. , 48, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

     He was born on July 26, 1963 in Bristol, VA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Shirley Ann Preston; brother, Brock Sensabaugh Preston.

     He graduated from Tennessee High School and attended Tennessee Tech University. He was currently enrolled in the adult studies program at King College with plans to create a non-profit organization for children.

   Tom was an avid biker and sports fanatic. He loved Tony Stewart, the Atlanta Braves, and the Washington Redskins.

     He was a lifelong member of Lee Street Baptist Church. He had just begun to work with the Youth Ministry program. He also volunteered at several community organizations.

    He is survived by his father, Mr. Thomas Preston; his God brother, Mr. Derrick Hord; several uncles, aunts, and cousins; special friends, Mr. Dennis Irwin, Mr. Tony and Mrs. Suzie Harkins, Mr. Jeff Eury and several others.

Funeral Service for Mr. Thomas Preston, Jr. will be conducted at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Lee Street Baptist Church with Dr. W.A. Johnson officiating.  The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. till the hour of service.     Entombment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. James Douglas Logan, 56, Bristol, TN. departed this life on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after long illness.

 

Mr. Logan was born in New York, NY and made his home here in Bristol for the past 28 years.

 

Preceded in death by his father, Mr. Albert Logan; mother, Mrs. Maxine Logan; daughter, Ms. Heather Logan and sister, Ms. Jenise Esther Logan.

JaI-Lesa Andreyonna Dulaney was born on January 21, 2004. She was a Bright and gifted young lady who was full of life. She loved to look good, she always wanted her hair and nails done.She also loved music, riding her scooter and playingon the playground with her friends, especiall Gunnar Caudill. Jai-Lesa had participated in various events throughout the community with the New Vision youth group. She loved watching Hannah Montana, Justin Beiber, she also enjoyed going to church on Sunday mornings. She will be missed by everyone, but her light will shine through all of those left to mourn her.

Mr. Dwike(Rusty) McMiller

Mr. Dwike(Rusty) McMiller, 57, departed this life Thursday Morning , July 7, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. McMiller was born in Kingsport, TN. The son of Rev George and Elma McMiller, Sr., who has preceded in death, also sister, Marie, Bothers, George Jr., Joe Allen, Edward Lee, William and James.

Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Nikki Henderson and her husband Q, three grandchildren, Jahyria, JC, Jadah, one sister, Mrs. Shirley Wagstaff, a brother, Marc McMiller, two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Dorothea McMiller,  and Mrs. Wanda McMiller, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Funeral service will be conducted from Central Baptist Church, on Monday July 11, 2011 at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

Richard Wayne Lewis aka "D. J. Gramer"

Richard Wayne Lewis a.k.a. “D.J. Gramm”, born October 6, 1970, made his transition on July 5, 2011 after a brief & sudden illness.

He was born in Kingsport, TN to the (late) Clifford A. Lewis and his beloved mother, Sinora H. Lewis, of Kingsport.

He attended John Sevier Middle School and Dobyns-Bennett High School, where he was quite the athlete.  His mother encouraged him to box, run track, play basketball and football, which he excelled at them all.

His passion was his music since the first time he heard and saw Uncle Bug with his band and later Run DMC.

Richie, as we call him, was always listening to music, playing music, and making music.  He was living out his dreams, while studying for his degree at Full Sail University, in Orlando, Florida.  He had come home to visit his first true love – his mother, when he suddenly became ill.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ray C. Horton, Sr.; three uncles, Ray C. Horton, Jr., Calvin Horton, and Raymond “Tee” Tyner; and his grandmothers, Ollie Alexander and Lucy DeBerry.

Left to cherish his memories along with his dear mother are: three sisters, Monica Lewis-Patrick of Detroit, MI, Mena L. Lewis of Clayton, NC, and Octavia P. Brooks of Kingsport, TN; three daughters, Jocelyn R. Cradic, Jasmine N. Lewis, and two-year old, Teesha, all of Kingsport, TN; one son, Justice I. Lewis of Jefferson City, TN; a loving grandmother, Pinkie L. Horton; two aunts, Rev. Dr. Helen Styles (Richard) and Rev. Lillian Tyner; four uncles, Jimmy Horton (Margerie), Rev. Anthony “Tony” Horton, Sr. (Vera), Walter Horton (Debbie), and Howard Horton (Keisha); three grand children, Zymiria Horton, Zaiden Woods, Zakiyah Earnest; four nieces, Jordan A. Patrick, Jada M. Patrick, Jayla E. Brooks, and Janae A. Wilson; one great-nephew, Zemar A. Gray; and lots of loving family and friends.


Memorial services will be conducted at the Shiloh Baptist Church Friday, July 8, 2011 at 7:00pm with Dr. Kenneth Calvert officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until the hour of service.

Mr. James David Burks

Mr. James David Burks (JD) was born July 20,1948 in New River Virginia. He was the third son of William Gaston Burks and Lorraine Mamie Black, Burks.

His family moved to Bluefield, West Virginia, when James was 2 years old. There he came to know the Lord at a very early age and became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, and sang loudly "Oh Lord Send the Power Just Now." JD attended elementary school in the Mercer County School System in Bluefield.

In 1964 his family relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he attended Eastern District High School. After high school James learned work ethics and became a very hard worker. In the mid 1970's as a young man James relocated to Bristol Virginia and became a member of Harris Anderson A.M.E Zion Church. In Bristol he met and married Marzetta Clark. One child came from that union.

Until his health failed him, James lived and worked thirty plus years in Bristol. Most of those years at Visador Coffman Stair. Although, he lived alone, he quietly continued to work hard and took pride in caring for his home.

After a long illness James went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 20, 2011, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was proceeded in death by his mother Lorraine M Burks, three brothers, Bobby, Robert and Ronnie Burks. His paternal grandparents, William Garrison Burks, and Ella Rollins Burks, maternal grandparents, Perry Black and Mamie Jones Black. Left to mourn, his daughter, Janeen White, her four children, Shakima Parker,Gregory Parker,Taquana White and Kendell White, son, David Burks, Jr., and fiance April Hall and their three children, Taliyah Burks, Alijah Burks, and Karmah Burks, five great grandchildren, stepdaughter, Sally Clark Poole, and her two children, Kiyanna and Breiana Clark, four sisters Helen Smith (Alexander) of Atlanta, Georgia, Mable Davenport (Lee) of Brooklyn, N Y, Velma Barnes (Luke) of Mapleshade, N J, and Carolyn Burks of Brooklyn, NY. Six brothers, William T. Burks, (Thelma) of Bristol, VA, Deryl Burks, (Lucy) of Bronx, NY, Teronia Burks, of Brooklyn, NY, Michael Burks, of Bristol, VA, and Perry Burks, of Bristol, VA, many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins friends.

James will be sorely missed by his family. We loved him but we know that God loved him more.

"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

 

Funeral Service for Mr. James David Burks (JD) will be conducted from Harris-Anderson A.M.E. Zion Church on Saturday, June 25th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Irving H. Greene, officiating. Sgt. David McKinley Worley

Sgt. David McKinley Worley departed this life on June 12, 2011 at Duke Hospital after a lengthy illness.  He was the son of Floyd and Virginia Worley.  He was born in Bristol, TN.  January 7, 1951.

He was married to Ella Grant and to this union 2 sons were born. 

He joined the U.S. Army in 1972 and was discharged in 1984.  He was a member of A.S. Hunter Lodge #825.

He was active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Durham, NC

He was employed at Rocco Turkey plant, the house of Raeford and Qualey.

He is preceded in death by his mother, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

He leaves to cherish his memory three sons; Keith Worley and Terry Worley of Fayettevelle, NC and Juanvaris Worley of Durham, NC. Four grandchildren David, Melai, Daviona and Brianna of Fayetteville, NC.  Three sisters; Carolyn Worley, Bristol, Va. Lorraine(James) Perry Detroit MI. Joette Coclough of Johnson City, TN.

One brother; Wilbur(Ruby) Worley of Johnson City, TN.  Former wife: Particia Harper Worley.  Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends, special thanks to James Perry, Kenneth Reed, and Tiara McWhorter.   

 

Interment services for Sgt David McKinley Worley will be conducted from the V.A. National Cemetery, Mt. Home, TN, Wednesday June 22, 2011 at 2:00pm.

Military rites will be provided by D.A.V. Chapter #40, Bristol, VA.

The Cortege will depart Kingsport, 806 East Sevier St, at 1:00pm.

Mr. Marcus Antonius Lewis, 39, departed this life on June 3, 2011 at Botsford Hospital Detroit, MI after a brief illness.

Mrs. Eula Leeper

Mrs. Eula Leeper, 75, of 954 Dale St. departed this life Friday morning, at Holston Valley Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Leeper was retired from The Neighborhood Service Center after thirty-four years of service. She was very active in her church serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth director, choir member, and pianist. She loved singing and never passed up an opportunity to lend her voice whenever called upon. Mrs. Leeper was a member of the Douglass Alumni Association and was also very active with Kingsport Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Leeper was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Eula Cartwright and Mr. Thomas H. Cartwright; four brothers, Thomas Edward, Robert, Phillip, and Roy; three sisters, Lorraine Lollar, Emogene C. Hankins, and Shirley Gilmore.

Mrs. Leeper is survived by one daughter, Sheila Leeper; two sons Michael (Gerri) Leeper, and Gary (Milita) Leeper; three grandchildren, Tonya Leeper, Stan Coward, and Kadana Coward; five great grandchildren, Brenton Leeper, Terrell Leeper, Noah Davis, Aeriel Coward, and Josh Amos, Jr.; one brother, John (Donna) Cartwright, Sherman Oaks, CA; one sister, Sylvia (Thomas) Bond, McDonough, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Leeper will be held at Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church, 812 Maple-Oak Lane, Kingsport, TN on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 2:00p.m. Elder Charles Hawkins will deliver the eulogy. Interment will immediately follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. until the hour of service.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Banks, 55 Bristol, TN. departed this life Saturday May 28, 2011 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He attended New Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Banks was predeceased by his father, Mr. William J. Mrs. Shirley Keller

Mrs. Shirley Daisy McMillan Keller, 74, departed this life on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Keller was born in Ashe County, NC and graduated from Jefferson High School in Crumpler, NC. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and on the usher board. Mrs. Keller retired from Bristol Lingerie where she was a seamstress.

 

Preceded in death by four sisters, Wilma, Marcell, Julia and Esther Rae; one brother, Russell;

 

Survived by her loving husband, Mr. Lewis T. Keller; one daughter, Ms. Kimberly Keller, Scranton, PA;

nine sisters-in-laws, Eva Blake, Francis Johnson, Bobbie Crawford, Bertha Wright, Inez Rich, Martha Key, Nettie Wooley, Francine Keller and Sharon Keller; two brother-in-law, Mr. Luther Keller & Rev. Wilmer Rich; two special nieces, Cheryl Brown and Felicia Banks; one special nephew, Walter Brown; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Pearl Lee Jefferies

Mrs. Pearl Lee Jefferies (Mama Pearl), 83, of 233 Carver St. departed this life, Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. 
Mrs. Jefferies was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, was an active member in the Senior Choir, Sunday School, Golden Saint, and a past member of Annie Hickman Club.  Mrs. Jefferies was very active with the community youth, known as "Mama Pearl to the community, giving icees to children.

Mrs. Jefferies was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James A. Henry, parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lester Bristol; son, James Albert Henry; two daughter, Mrs. Cleo Charles and Mrs. Christine Black.

Obituary of Patrick Henry Robinson, Jr.

PATRICK HENRY ROBINSON, JR., known as “P.H.,” passed from this earthly life and on to eternal life and peace on March, 28, 2011 following a brief illness. He was born on July 6, 1916 in Bristol, VA, and was grateful to God for letting him live for 94 years. He graduated from the old Douglass High School in 1934.

He earned his Funeral Director license in 1948.  In 1953, he entered the Atlanta College of Mortuary Science and graduated in 1954. In 1955, his funeral home was incorporated as Robinson Mortuary located in Bristol, VA. In 1982, he became co-owner of Robinson Funeral Services, Inc., in Kingsport, TN.

His personal and professional motto was: In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:6. He grew up in the Lee Street Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the church for 86 years. He trustingly served the church as a deacon and usher, Superintendent of the Sunday School, Chairman of the Trustee Board and Vice President of the Lee Street Community Child Care Center. Other affiliations included: Member of the Jannie Hammitt Home; Organizer and Founder of the Orion Club (President for 5 years); Member of the Macedonia Lodge #85 F&M Masons. Some of his community service included: Member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA; Member of the Kiwanis Club (including Vice-President); Chaplain and life member the Bristol Boys and Girls Club and founding member of its Honors Board. Over the years he has received many awards for his service including: Man of the Year and Volunteer of the Year from the Bristol Boys and Girls Club; the Zella Moore Honor Award; the George Hixson Fellowship Honor and 41 years of perfect attendance award from the Kiwanis Club. In 2003, he was presented the Recognition Award for Long and Dedicated service to the community by the Bristol Virginia City Council.

Throughout his long life, he was a role model, and a beacon of light to all whom he encountered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Henry and Ida White Robinson, loving wife Bettie Lacy Robinson of 58 years; brother, Charles Frank Robinson and sister, Rosa Etta Hathaway.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Frank Robinson, Sr.; three daughters, Dr. Maisah (Patricia) Robinson-Smith, Atlanta, GA, Dr. Ida Robinson-Backmon, Peoria, Arizona and Ms. Bettina A. Robinson, Douglasville, GA; two sons-in law, Mr. Eugene Backmon and Dr. Antar Smith; sister-in-law, Mrs. Eva Harvey, New York City; devoted friend, Mrs. Jewel Bell; six grandchildren, including Eric Robinson of Bristol, TN, who was close to his heart; eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives.

The celebration of life for Patrick Henry Robinson, Jr. will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Lee Street Baptist Church, Bristol, VA, with Dr. W.A. Johnson officiating. The body will lay in repose, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  at the church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, VA.

Pallbearers will be Deacons of Lee Street Baptist Church.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Kiwanis Club of Bristol, Funeral Directors of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, the Orion Club, and Dr. Grat Correll.  Flower bearers will be Deaconesses of Lee Street Baptist Church and the Paramount Club.

Mr. John Edwards

Mr. John Edwards, III, 66, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at his home with his family and his loyal companions, his dogs Samson and Eve by his side.

 

Mr. Edwards was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church, Bristol, VA.  He retired from North East State. John served in the U.S. Navy, he served a tour of duty in Desert Storm and retired from the Naval Reserve. John enjoyed being on the golf course until his health no longer permitted, he also served as President of the Douglass High School Alumni of Bristol, VA.

 

John was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Jeanette Edwards, father,Mr. John Edwards, Jr., sister, Mrs. Barbara A. Edwards, Grandparents, Mr.  & Mrs. Ben (Eva) Gammon.

 

John leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, is survived by: two sons, his devoted caretaker Mr. John (Scotty) Edwards & Mr. William (Billy) Fugate; a special friend and the mother of his children, Mrs. Charlyne Edwards;  aunt, Mrs. Josephine Grudger, Decatur, GA; and a host of other loving relatives and friends; his golfing partners, Mr. Vernon Smith, Rev. Mrs. Donna Gail Perry

Mrs. Donna Gail Perry, 54, 247 Carver St. Kingsport, TN, departed this life on Thursday, March 10, 2011 after a long illness at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Mr. James Hoard and Mrs. Mildred Hoard. Mrs. Perry was born on January 8, 1957 in Kingsport, TN where she lived all her life.

 

Mrs. Perry is survived by her husband, Mr. Henry Perry; two daughters, Ms. Selena Perry and Mrs. Michelle Perry; one granddaughter, Ashant Perry; three sisters, Ms. Brenda Wood, Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Janet (Grover) Miller and Ms. Deborah Butts; several nephews and nieces. Mr. Wyndon Gammon

Mr. Wyndon Gammon 79, 833 E. State Street departed this life on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after lengthy illness.

 

Mr. Gammon was born Dec. 30, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Bristol TN. A graduate of Slater High School and He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Air Force. A member of Lee Street Baptist Church where he served on the Men’s Usher Board.

 

Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Donna Gammon; father, Mr. Manuel Gammon; mother, Mrs. Lizzie Gammon; 6 sisters; 3 brothers.

 

Survived by sons, Mr. Wyndon Manuel (Anita) Gammon and Mr. Clarence E. Ms. Ashley Porter

Ms. Ashley Porter departed this life on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Lewis- Gale Medical Center after a brief illness. 

Ms. Porter was born in Glade Spring, VA and for the past 4 years she made her home in Roanoke, VA.  Ms. Porter was a member of Mt. Calvary Community Church where she was on the dance praise team.

Survived by her fiancé, Mr. Keith Milliner; father, Mr. Ricky Porter and companion, Ms. Ann Mutter; mother, Mrs. Pat (Walt) Storie; brother, Mr. Leon Porter; two sisters, Amy Jenkins and Gail Whittaker; uncle, Mr. Guy Porter; nieces, Heather, Emily & Clarabeth; nephews, Logan, Cody & Landon; cousins, Ruth Ross and Margaret Hunshell; good friend, Ms. Bethane Johnson, very special friends in Elder & Mrs. Melvin Johnson & Family.

Funeral Service for Ms. Ashley Porter will be conducted from Mt. Calvary Community Church on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Melvin Johnson officiating. The internment will follow at Forest Hill Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Feb. 24, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Daniel Richard (Danny) Hall Jr.

Mr. Daniel Richard (Danny) Hall Jr., 60, departed this life on Monday, February 14, 2011 after a lengthy illness.  He was the second child of Ruth Hall and the late Daniel Hall, Sr.  Danny was a trained carpenter, painter and entrepreneur.  He was a brother in the Clinch Mountain Lodge No. 531 of Kingsport, TN. 

 

Mr. Hall is preceded in death by his beloved aunt, Mrs. Mary Olivia Payne; and his grandparents, Mr. Walter P. and Mrs. Rosa E. Wagner, Mr. Mommnie Wagner and Mrs. Hannah F. Crum.

 

He is survived by the love of his life his wife, Mrs. Truda Hall; 7 sons, Mr. Daniel R. Hall, III, Mr. Carhone L. Hall of Kingsport, Mr. Christopher Ryan Hall and Mr. Robert “Lucky" Daggs of Bristol, Mr. Steven Tarter, Mr.  Jeremy Graves and Mr. Capurs Hall of Kingsport; 3 daughter, Ms. Tamera Daggs of Knoxville, Ms. Tasha Graves and Ms. India Graves of Kingsport; 27 grandchildren; 8 brothers, Mr. William "Eddie Hall, Mr. Anthony "Tony Hall, Greeneville, TN, Mr. Walter F. Mrs. Rose M. Bunche

Mrs. Rose M. Bunche, 117 Cherrywood Lane departed this life on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Memphis, TN, moved to Bristol as a child and made her home here for the past 60 years.

Mrs. Bunche was a faithful member of Lee Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.  She was a member of the deaconess board. She loved singing  for the Lord and was devoted to the Sanctuary Choir and the Women’s Choir.

Mrs. Bunche graduated from Douglass High School in 1957 and attended VI College. She was employed by Douglass School as a secretary under H K. Breedlove and went on to work for Sprint Telephone Company where she retired.

 

Preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Theodore and Mrs. Georgia Thelma Walton,

 

Survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Mr. Robert L. Bunche; aunts, Mrs. Helen Howard of Memphis, TN and Ms. Josie Dowdy of Chicago, IL; sister-in-Law Betty J. Bunche of Bristol, TN and a host of nieces & nephews.

Rev. James Ellis Snapp

Rev. James Ellis Snapp, 64, 949 Dale Street Kingsport, TN departed this life early Saturday  morning, January 29, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after brief illness.

Rev. Snapp was a lifelong citizen of Kingsport, TN., he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, was the first African American police officer hired by the city of Kingsport, a member and  Assistant Pastor at Central Baptist Church. Rev. Snapp served as Chaplin of Vietnam Veterans of America and volunteered for the Red Cross.  

 

Rev. Snap is preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Snapp;

 

Rev. Snapp is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janie Mae Snapp; six daughters, Ms. Mary Elizabeth Snapp, Mrs. Shirley Long, Mrs. Teresa Harold, Mrs. Tammy Franklin, Mrs. Peggy Britt and Mrs. Jeannie Bernard; 19 grandchildren; Father, Mr. Charles A. Ellis Snapp; one brother, Mr. Arthur L. Snapp and a host of friends and other relatives.

 

Funeral Service for Rev. James Ellis Snapp will be conducted at Central Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Ricardo F. Dorcean, officiating. Mr. Jeremiah Foster

Mr. Jeremiah Foster, 87,  departed this life Thursday,  January 27, 2011 after a lingering illness.  Mr.  Foster was a resident of Bristol, Va but resided in Abingdon, Va for the past twenty six years. He was a member of the Lee St. Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Ada Geneva Hamilton Foster and parents Jay Foster and Mrs. Edna Laws Foster Jarret, two brothers Thomas Foster and John Foster and one sister Mrs. Dorothy Kate Foster McDaniel.

Survivors include: Two sons: Jerry B. Foster (and wife Jacqueline),  and Steven J. Foster, two daughters Mrs. Patricia Ann Foster Austin(and husband Rev Willie Austin)  Mrs. Edna Elaine Foster Tabor, one sister Mrs. Ruth Parkey.  Nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

 

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00pm Tuesday February 1, 2011 at the VA National Cemetery, Mt. Home TN with Dr. W.A. Johnson Officiating.   Military honors will be conducted by DAV Chapter #40.  The cortege will depart the residence of his daughter and son-in-law Rev Willie and Patrica Austin  304 Taylor St. Abingdon, Va at 12:30pm.

Mrs. Tecora Robinson Pace

Mrs. Tecora R. Pace age 93 Departed this life on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Born August 28, 1917 in Anderson South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late James & Mamie Robinson.  Mrs. Pace lived most of her life in Bristol, Virginia and was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Henry Raymond Pace; two Sisters, Mrs. Leslie Robinson & Ruth M. Wardlaw; one Brother, James E. Robinson.

Survivors: one daughter, Mrs. Kathryn (Richard ) Williams; two sons, Mr. Henry ( Evette ) Pace and Elder Williams Pace;  Grand children, David, Raymond, Scott, Angela, Ebony, Samatha, and Elisabeth;  Great grand children, Bree, Alexia, Jaylen, Parish, Mack, Dorian, King, and Bryson;  A host of nieces and nephews.  Also survived are special friends Mrs. Ann Montgomery and Mrs. Frances Worthington.

 

Graveside services for Mrs. Tecora R. Pace will be conducted on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Citizens Cemetery.

Mr. Eugene Grimes

Mr. Eugene Grimes, 78, 509 Virginia St. departed this life on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Wellmont Bristol Hospice House.

Mrs. Grimes was born in Boone, NC and made his home here for the part 40 years.

A Member of New Hope Baptist Church and where he sang with the Male Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Vienna Grimes McCurdy. 

Survivors include his loving wife:  Mrs. Hattie Grimes of the home; one brother, John Marshall Grimes Boone NC; one sister, Mrs. Lois Carey of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Lawrence C. Jones

Mr. Lawrence C. Jones, 75, formerly of Kingsport, TN, departed this life on Friday morning, December 25, 2010 at Life Care Center Elizabethton, TN after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Jones was born on May 11, 1935 in Greensboro, AL and graduate of Douglass High School in Kingsport, TN. Mr. Jones served In the United States Army for 25 years.

A member of Central Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board.

Preceded in death by his parents Mother, Mrs. Mary Hutcherson; brother, Mr. Fletcher Hutcherson, Jr.; sister, Mrs. Loretta Valentine; aunt, Ovetta Gaines;

Mr. Jones leaves to celebrate his home going:  one sister, Mrs. Ora Lee Richardson; aunt, Mrs.  Bulah Banner; and members of the family, Rev. Bobby Hill & Rev. Dr. Anthony Daniels, Wayne and Jerry Green ; several nieces & nephews.

Mrs. Chiquita Louise English Owens
Mrs. Chiquita Louise English Owens was born June 6, 1932 in Bristol, TN to Mrs. Edna D. and Carl English. She departed this life after a brief illness on December 23, 2010 at Bristol Wellmont Regional Medical Center.
She wea employed at University Hospital of Cleveland, and retired from Hough Norwood Clinic of Cleveland, OH. She was currently employed part -time by Sunhouse of Bristol, VA.
Mrs. Owens received Christ at an early age at Lee Street Baptist Church. She participate in Sunday School and B.T.U. She was a graduate of Douglass High School of Bristol, VA and a Certified Phlebotomist under the National Phlebotomy Association.
Preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Harvey Owens and father, Mr. Carl English.
She leaves to cherish her memories: mother, Mrs. Edna English of Bristol, VA; one favorite brother, Mr. Carlton (Eva Mae) English of Ft. Washington, MD; seven sisters, Ms. Brenda English of Petersburg, VA, Ms. Piccola English of Hillsville, VA, Mrs. Clara Dulaney, Mrs. Vivian (Douglass) Releford of Kingsport, TN, Mrs. Theresa (Emanuel) Courtland of Strongsville, OH, Mrs. Billie D. Mr. Bobby Gene Smith

Bobby Gene “Tuggy” Smith, 69, of Kingsport, TN went to be the Lord, December 20, 2010, at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.  He was born May 23, 1941 in Greeneville, TN. He was a member of Full Gospel Mission and enjoyed singing with his high tenor voice.  Bobby was a excellent football player for Swift High School in Rogersville, TN.

 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. Cephas and Mrs. Angel (Crum) Smith; maternal grandparents, Mr. John and Mrs. Vannie Crum; paternal grandparents, Mr. Alfred and Mrs. Fannie Smith and a bother-in-law, Mr. Johnny Swagerty.

 

He leaves to mourn one son, Victor McMiller; grandchildren, Matthew Phillips of Kingsport, TN and Victor McMiller, Jr. of Detroit , MI; two sisters, Rev. Geraldine Swagerty and Carolyn (Larry) Maxwell of Kingsport, TN; uncle, Luchion (Buddio) Crum, of Moshiem, TN; nieces, Letitia (Edward) Hayes, Delisa Hale, Camellia (Lawrence) Myrick, Johnnie Mae Swagerty; devoted caregiver and niece Angel Blye, Angie (James) Morris, Alabama, Crystal Lee of Kingsport, TN. Mr. Herbert Burton (H.B.) Carter, 88, 823 Maple Street, Bristol, VA.  Departed this life on Friday, December 17, 2010 at James H Quillen V.A. Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN after a brief illness.


Mr. Carter was born in Thorpe, WV. He made his home here in Bristol for several years. Mr. Carter was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Lee Street Baptist Church where he served on the Men’s Usher Board and he retired from Cowan Brothers.

 

Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charles and Mrs. Mary Carter; 2 brothers, Mr. Wifred H. Carter and Mr. William E. Carter.

 

Survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Maria Carter (James “Pete”) Redmon and Mrs. Teresa C. (Thomas) Brown; 3 grandchildren, Robynn Chavez, Teresa Francesconi & Bradley L. Mr. Bobby Lynn Burton

Mr. Bobby Lynn Burton, 68, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 12, 2010. at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

 

He was born Nov. 26, 1942 to Jennie and Albert Burton.

 

Bobby was a Vietnam veteran that truly loved his country.  After discharge from the Army, he worked for Eastman Kodak, where he retired. A member of Vietnam of America, Chapter #979

 

Bobby truly loved life, traveling in both the US and abroad visiting family and friends.  He was an avid walker, walking three miles a day, danced and visited with his veteran buddies.  He will be truly missed by all the family, friends and strangers whose lives he touched.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Burton; grandmother, Jennie Shields; mother, Jennie Kincaid; stepfather, Franklin Kincaid; and grandparents, Eldridge and Fannie Payne.

 

He is survived by his son, Bobby Burton, Jr.  (Rogersville); grandson, Axel Burton (Greenwood, Indiana);  Sylvia Wade, loyal companion; Dustin Wade, honorary son (Kingsport);  sisters, Sharon Shade (Warrensburg, Missouri), Kathy Smith and Donna Wheeler(Rogersville), Renee Bethea (Atlanta);  brothers, Franklin Kincaid, Jr. (Morristown), Earl Kincaid (Eagan, Minnesota). He also leaves behind two dedicated aunts, Molly Pope (Rogersville) and Ethel Rogers (Dayton, Ohio) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Shirley Ann Bond- Rogers

Ms. Shirley Ann Bond- Rogers 74, departed this life on Wednesday, 8, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.  Ms. Rogers was born March 22, 1936.

 

Shirley was a very happy, family oriented person; she loved to spend time in her garden, and preparing the perfect meal, she was loved by many, and will never be forgotten. She had a very devoted and cohesive family.  She attended Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL for 2yrs. And she retired from Baysmont Asbury Place.

 

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Mr. Oscar Bond and daughter, Nadine Rogers.

 

Survived by her son, Mr. Conrad Bond;mother, Evangelist  Willie Belle Bond;sister,Mrs. Regina (Isiah) Gray; stepchildren, Gregory, Denise, and Dennis (Camilla) Rogers of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren (that she raised) Marcus, Anthony, and Niesha Rogers; great-granddaughter, Ja’maya Fluellen; 5 uncles, Mr. Orvel (Beatrice) Bond, Mr. William Evans, Mr. Hugh Hodge, Mr. John (Members) Bond of Fayetteville, NC and Mr. Escoe Branner of New York, NY; 2 nieces, Mrs. Jacquelyn(Ronnie) Releford and Ms. Nikki Dully; great nieces, Ms. Ronisha Dully and Ja’Necqua Releford; great nephews, Kameron Cox and Ja’Veonn Dully and a host of cousins and friends.

Mr. Shoffner was a native of Bristol, TN. He was a faithful member of Lee Street Baptist Church, The Orion Club and Retired Teachers Association.

 

Mr. Shoffner was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Jean Rogers Shoffner; mother, Mrs. Helen DuLaney Shoffner; father, Mr. Oliver Paul Shoffner, Sr. and brother, Mr. Oliver Paul Shoffner, Jr.

Mr. Fred D. DeLapp, I, 76, 40 South St. departed this life on December 1, 2010 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

 

Mr. DeLapp was born in Bristol, VA and maintained his home here after serving his country in the United States Marine Corps and the Army Reserves.

Mrs. Betty Ruth Beildman Rush

Mrs. Betty Ruth Beildman Rush slipped peacefully into eternal life on Friday, November, 19, 2010 in West Hartford, Connecticut.  Betty was born in Bristol, TN.  on March 19, 1935 to the late William Garfield Beildman and Jennie Florence Dixon Beildman

Betty accepted Christ at an early age and joined Hood Memorial AME Zion Church Bristol, TN. She participated in Sunday School, Various Christian Endeavor and sang in the junior choir.  It was always her hope to be a missionary.

Her formative years were spent in Bristol, TN. where she graduated from Slater High School with honors.  She went on to attend Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. Where she earned a B.S. degree in education.  While a student there, she participated on the basketball team, choir and was the president of Alpha Kappa Sorority.

Following her graduation, Betty began her teaching career in Petersburg, VA.  Shortly after marring, she moved to Fuquay-Varina, NC where she continued her professional career as a school teacher.  She taught in the Wake County Public School system for 33 years.  While there, she served as the Social Studies Chairperson and the In-School Suspension Coordinator.  She went on to earn her Master Degree from North Carolina Central University in Supervision and leadership.

Upon moving to North Carolina, Betty continued to serve in various roles within the AME Zion Church, including Rush Metropolitan.  During her dedicated service she served as Director of Conference Workers, District Director of Christian Education, Deaconess, Founder and Chairperson of Health Ministry and as a choir member.

Her active involvement in the community included:  Executive Director and board member of Pine Acres Community Center, Registrar of Voters, Centennial Gala Committee, National President of the Beildman, Blevins, Howard, Dixon Family Reunion:  National Negro Women’s Society and NC Retired School Personnel.  She was the 2002 recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. lights of Hope Award and received service awards from the YWCA and the town of Fuquay-Varina.

Betty was deeply devoted to her church, community and family.  She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mrs. Monica Rush Howard of Kennesaw, GA. And Mrs. Tammy Rush Exum (Earl) of West Harford, CT.  one sister Mrs. Lorean Beildman Henderson, Bristol, TN. one brother Rev. Dr. J. LaVon Kincaid(Bobi) of Pittsburg, PA. five grandchildren,  Hyatt Howard of Haven CT. Kristen Howard of Charlottesville, VA Evan Earl Kyle Edmond and Jonathan Lee Exum of West Harford, CT.

Mr. George W. Campbell

Mr. George Washington Campbell, Jr. (Junebug), 84, departed this life on November 6, 2010 at Brookhaven Nursing Manor. Mr. Campbell was the last of 15 siblings, born July 8, 1926 to Mr. George and Mrs. Eliza Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his son, Mr. John (Sonny Boy) in November 2008; parents, Mr. George and Mrs. Eliza Campbell; 7 sisters, and 7 brothers;

His love and life will be remembered by three daughters, Cora (Kandy) Harold, Linda (Charles) Robinson, Georgia (Johnny) Coats; one daughter-in-law, Lynda Dishner Campbell; 9 Grandchildren and 12 Great grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews and George’s Porch Buddies, Mr. Jack Pierce, Mr. June Logan, Mr. Orville Bond, Mr. William Evans.

The Family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to the Amedisys Hospice Service and the 4th floor nurses station at Wellmont in Kingsport, The Physicians, Dr. Gonce and Staff, Dr. Diane Nunley and Staff and The staff of Brookhaven Nursing Manor.

 

Graveside service for Mr. George Washington Campbell, Jr. will be conducted at East Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 12 Noon.

The family will receive friends at anytime at 334 Louis Street.

Mr. Connie Benjamin Harris Swann

Mr. Connie Benjamin Harris Swann, 66, of Clarksville, TN departed this life due to an automobile accident on Monday, October 4, 2010 in Springfield, TN.

Mr. Swann was a graduate of Swift Memorial High School, Rogersville, TN

Mr. Swann was a decorated soldier in the U.S. States Army. He was awarded among other medals the Purple Heart and Silver Star for Valor in Battle while serving in Vietnam.

Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs.  Alfreda Swann; father, Mr. Ben H. Swann, Sr. and mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Lucille Looney Swann.

Survived by his 2 sons, Mr. Lonnie Looney, SC and Mr. Benjamin Bellamy Elizabethton, TN; 1 daughter, Mrs. Rhonda Looney Brown Rogersville, TN; 5 grandchildren & 7 great Grandchildren; 2 brothers, Mr. Carl E. Swann, Kingsport & Mr. Vernon L. Swann, Corinth, TX;

3 sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae (William) Hickman, Kingsport, Mrs. Barbara H. Greene, Church Hill, TN & Ms. Marva A. Swann, Nashville, TN; best cousin, Mrs. Margaret Johnson & Devoted friend, Pam (Miss Bones) Swaggerty & Mr. Darnell Holmes and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service for Mr. Swann will be conducted at the chapel of Carter Trent Funeral Home on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. till the hour of service. The interment will be conducted at the V.A. National Cemetery, Mt. Home, TN on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.. The cortege will depart at 8:00 a.m. from Mr. Carl’s Place of business on Lincoln Street.

Mrs. Brenda Lee Collins, 50, Bays View Ct. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, September 30, 2010 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Jerry Reinhardt

Survivors are: her husband, Mr. Tommy Collins; two loving daughters, Mrs. Jodi Newcomb and Mrs. Melody (Ronald) Mitchell; three precious grandkids, Zachany Gardner, Destiny Miller and Edward Newcomb; mother, Mrs. Shirlee Reinhardt; sister, Mrs. Mary Cozzitarto; niece, Paty Imbordimno and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Valerie Charlene Stewart

Mrs. Valerie Charlene Stewart, 50, departed this life on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Richmond, VA on February 24, 1960, but was a resident of Bristol and Johnson City, TN since 1961.  She was the daughter of Rev. Dr. W.A. Johnson and the late Mrs. Louise W. Johnson.

Survivors includes; her husband, Mr. Robert (Bud) Stewart; daughter, Carolyn (Jeri) Stewart; grandson, Ty’Quan Stewart; granddaughter, Ty”Myra Stewart; father, Rev. Dr. W.A. Johnson; step-mother, Mrs. Carolyn W. Johnson; sisters, Mrs. Deborah Webb, Mrs. Brenda Greene and Mrs. Carolyn Hope- Fersner, Brothers Mr. Michael (Dorothea) Fersner, Mr. Willis (Festus) Johnson, Mr. Jerry Johnson, Mr. Troy Fersner and Mr. Arthur (Michelle) Fersner along with 10 nieces and nephews, 2 aunts and several cousins and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Stewart will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Lee Street Baptist Church with Dr. W.A. Johnson & Rev. W.J. Reid, Officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. till the hour of service. The internment will follow at V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN

Mr. Samuel Andrew Austin, 52, departed this life on Friday, September 24, 2010 at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Austin was a very caring and loving person.  Everyone that new him loved him.  He will be greatly missed by all.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Samuel & Mrs. Kathleen Austin.

Survived by 4 brothers, Mr. John (Stephanie)Austin, Warren (Maria) Austin, Neal (Teresa) Austin and Marshall (Gaudencia) Austin; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jackie (Nick)Avery & Mrs. Sylvia & Rev. William J. Reid; Mrs. Phyllis Baker (companion) several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Wells was a lifelong citizen and native of Bluff City, TN.

Mrs. Patricia "Patty" L. Byrns, 65 went to meet the Lord on Monday (September 13, 2010), after a lengthy illness.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two children.
 
Surviving are her sister, Sherry Gibson, Kingsport, TN; four brothers, Sonny Byrns, Stratsburg, CO, Jackie Byrns, Spring Hill, FL, Butch Byrns and Ronnie Byrns, Kingsport, TN.; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
 
Services will be Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 12:00 pm till 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ, Kingsport, TN., with Bishop Gibson and Elder Amos Bright officiating. 
 
Pallbearers will be Robert Pruitt, Ashton Brown, Ray Bright, Scott Bright, Dennis Hutson, Ed Byrns, Amos Bright and Jimmy Johnson.  Honorary Pallbearer, Justin Hutson.

Mr. Adam Troy Brown

Those we hold most dear never truly leaves us! They live on in the kindness they showed, in the love they shared, and the happiness they brought in our lives.

 

On Wednesday, September 2, 2010, Our Heavenly Father sent an angel to call into the realm of Glory, our loved one Adam Troy Brown.

 

Troy accepted Christ at an early age. Troy attended Patrick Henry High School and worked an assortment of jobs. Troy always found great enjoyment in helping others. When not serving others, he enjoyed watching television shows and sporting events.  He was a friend to all.

 

Troy was preceeded in death by his loving Aunt Marie Brown. He leaves to his cherished memory, daughter Alexis Anna Marie.  Parents, George and Janie Watkins, Fort Washington, Maryland. Two brothers, Brian (Stacy) Watkins, Bowie, Maryland; Ronald (Clairice) Brown, Titusville, Florida. Uncle, Landon (Lucy) Brown, Cleveland, Ohio. Two nieces, Lani and Jessie Watkins, Bowie, Maryland. He also leaves a host of relatives and many, many friends.

 

Evangelist Deborah Louise Releford

Evangelist Deborah Louise Releford, 53, 412 Dunbar St., departed this life Sunday evening, August 15, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Evangelist Releford was born in Kingsport, TN, and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School.  Evangelist Releford was a member of Central Baptist Church and a member of Kingsport Minister Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kate Releford, father, Bravell Franklin McClintock, sister, Bravene Lee, Grandparents, Richard and Lillie Mae Releford.
Surviving are her brothers, Gary Releford,Knoxville, TN, Andre (Jo Ann) Releford, Blacksburg VA, Giles B. McClintock and William H. (Twinkle) McClintock. Sisters India Releford, Ilesia Anderson and Jackie (Carl) Scott of Kingsport, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends,
 
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Central Baptist Church with funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon with Rev. Dr. Anthony Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at Mitchell Crest Cemetery in Rogersville, TN

Mrs. Dorothy Edna White, 84,1240 Riverside Ave. departed this life on August 4, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. White attended Powerful New Life Church.

Mrs. White is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Josiah White, Jr.; father, Mr. Paul Keaton; mother, Mrs. Mary Edna Keaton; two sisters Mrs. Patricia Harris & Helen E. Keaton; three (Infant) brothers, one niece, Mrs. Janice Harris.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Mr. Josiah (Felisha) White, III; one daughter, Mary Donita White; one grandchild, Jomyjiah Jo'Lesha White & one step grand child, Cora M Patrick; brother-in-law, Mr. Charles Harris & one sister-in-law, Miss Bernice Horton; niece, Karen (Howard ) Grantham; three nephews, Mr. Larry Keaton, Mr. David Keaton and Mr. Daniel Harris.
